The comic strip Des cailloux sur la mer (Pebbles on the Sea) tells the story of 17-year-old Noura, who is summoned once again to appear before a judge. Behind her troubles with the law, the young girl carries a heavy secret: the sexual violence she suffered as a child. The comic strip explores the difficulty of becoming aware of such acts and, above all, of talking about them, when words fail and memories falter. The story takes place in Mayotte, the island territory where the project was born and where it draws its symbolic force. It combines youth, memory and the landscapes of Mayotte to give substance to a voice that is all too often suppressed. The comic was designed by the CIDE Mayotte collective, and is aimed primarily at the people of Mayotte, but also at everyone, to raise awareness of this universal phenomenon.
