My absolute Darling - Gabriel Tallent - 2017
Published in 2017, My Absolute Darling is Gabriel Tallent's first hard-hitting novel, acclaimed as a masterpiece in the United States. At once a novel of initiation, survival and emancipation, it paints a shattering portrait of a teenage girl struggling to free herself from the grip of a tyrannical, incestuous father. Turtle, 14, lives on the bangs of the world, in the wild forests of Northern California, armed, fierce and silent. Trained to survive in the wild, she is also the prisoner of an abusive father. Isolated and cut off from others, she closes herself off to any form of connection until she meets Jacob, a funny, caring teenager. This contact triggers a painful but life-saving realization. To survive and rebuild, Turtle must confront her father and break the cycle of violence. A brutal, intense novel, but with a powerful glimmer of hope.
