Day, night, incest - Mathilde Brasilier - 2019
Le jour, la nuit, l'inceste is an autobiographical tale of rare intensity, in which Maud Steiner, alias Mathilde Brasilier, seeks to understand her brother's suicide and the invisible wounds of their childhood. Born into a privileged milieu, among the artists and intellectuals of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the author gradually reveals the buried memories of incestuous violence. In her sober, understated style, she describes the gradual rise of memory, family silences, amnesia and the brutal truth that eventually emerges. This book is not just a testimony about incest: it's also an act of survival, a path to speech, sleep and reconstruction. A deeply moving text, shot through with pain but also with a fierce desire for truth and light.
