Le Grand Procès - Miniseries - Bahareh Akrami and Camille Duvelleroy - Arte - 2024
As a direct witness to the terrorist attacks of November 13, 2015 on the terrace of Le Carillon in Paris, Bahareh Akrami had just enough time to throw herself to the ground. She, her friends and her companion emerge unscathed. Six years later, she is taking part in the unprecedented trial of the attacks as a civil party. It was the largest criminal trial ever held in France.
After reading an article by a journalist depicting one of the defendants as "an ordinary man", she bears witness to the days of the hearing through accounts drawn on her Instagram and X accounts, with her words and her feelings. Using her drawings, Bahareh Akrami has published a documentary series on Arte entitled Le Grand Procès, combining sketches by courtroom cartoonists, photos, collages and texts in 13 short, touching episodes.
With Sara Forestier's voice-over, the series offers a fresh, educational and sometimes even funny and humorous look at the 10-month trial. Her round-line drawings tell the story of a strict, procedural hearing, while delivering her impressions and opinions in her own language: she calls the presiding judge "Loulou", interacts with a bird, offers anecdotes from outside the courtroom... Always with the need to understand: why?
