Birdy - Film - Alan Parker - 1984
Based on the 1978 novel of the same name by William Wharton, Birdy follows the lives of two friends: Al is athletic, exuberant and popular, while Birdy is reserved and strange to others. Despite their differences, the two protagonists are inseparable. But the Vietnam War puts an end to their carefree existence in Philadelphia's underprivileged suburbs. Having returned from the conflict disfigured, Al is called to the military hospital to help Birdy. The man, totally mute, is prostrate and isolated. He spends hours staring at the sky, dreaming of being able to fly like a bird. Through a series of flashbacks, the film sheds light on moments in the lives and traumas of the two friends.
